ABOUT THE FILM

When grief comes to your door for the first time, it’s usually because of something tragic and unexpected. For me, grief has visited in the form of a gut punch on several occasions, but never as violently or, for as long as it has since the loss of my only brother, Max.

In January of 2023, Max was discovered dead in a shitty motel room in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. What initially seemed like a drug overdose would later be confirmed to be caused by illicitly produced fentanyl. Like 73,000 other Americans that year alone, Max had unknowingly become a casualty of the opioid crisis.

Like the millions of others left behind in the The Wake of the opioid crisis, I'd have to learn how to live again. I didn’t know it then, but Max’s death would change my life forever.

This film follows that journey, the places I would look for peace, the healing power I would discover in nature and at the end of a fly rod, and the long lasting effect Max's story would have on people who never met him.
